My wife and I are expecting our first February 10th. For a while now, we’ve been pretty settled on a name. Grayson Andrew Nagy. Lately, however, we’ve been debating on the middle name. I like the idea of naming my son after me without creating a Jr., but some youth from our church suggested a fantastic alternative. They said his middle name should start with a “U” so his initials could be GUN. Yes, that would be sweet, but what good middle name starts with “U”?
Grayson Ulysses Nagy
That’s what. So anyway, we’re still torn, so I decided to leverage the power of the interweb to aid us in our dilemma. I’ve opened a poll in the sidebar there, and we want everyone and anyone to vote. Also, if you have a write-in option, feel free to submit it in the comments here. If we like it and it gets enough mentions, we’ll add it to the poll.
Let the voting begin!

Grayson Alexander Nagy
Grayson SNUFFLEMUFFIN!

Grayson Of Nagy
How about Url (pronounced like Earl)?
I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grayson Poo Bear Nagy!!!!
Snufflemuffin is definitely my favorite.
Okay, not really. I still like Grayson Andrew. Or was that Gayson?
Ulric?
Umberto?
Urban? Urban’s not terrible.. But I still like Umberto.
What about Urine? …Man there are so many possibilities with “U” as an initial!!
i’m liking umberto.
Really? Umberto wasn’t my favorite of the bunch… but what do I know? I’m still pulling for Snufflemuffin.
I’ve got it…..how about:
Ulrich (German for “Wolf Ruler)
OR….
Uriah (Meaning “My Light”)
eh?…eh?
I’m opposed to both names….there…I voted.
@DaD Nagy: Would you like to suggest a name? We also have Grayson Alexander up on the poll as well… :)
How bout Isaiah. So the initials could be GIN…
Neat idea but what’s the fascination with having your kids initials spell GUN? I would think FUN would serve him better throughout his life. Or “NUN” if you have a daughter lol.
@Crash: Sometimes I’m just a dork that way. Besides, having his initials be GUN is really only a side benefit. The fact of the matter is that I really like Ulysses with Grayson. I don’t think I’d use it as a first name, but I do think it’s cool as a middle.
Al sounds like very wise and smooth name. Voted for that!
i like Ulyssez
Ulick \u-li-ck\ is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is “little William”.
You can call him Lil Bill.
or….
UFO. Since Holly is an alien.
Grayson URIAH (God is my light) Nagy if you are still travelin’ down the GUN road…
then there is Grayson UZI (power, strength) Nagy that travels farther down the GUN road…
@Terry: Did you just call my wife an alien? More importantly… did you REALLY just suggest “Ulick” as a name? I mean, I’m cool with out-there names and such, but you don’t even have to twist Ulick… it’s already making fun of him. Can you imagine?
Hmm I’m liking Uzi. It’s intimidating, like “I drive a dodge stratus!”
And last time I checked i wasn’t an alien. At least on the planet Izodia. No one calls me an alien there.
Andrew,
I voted for “Alexander” but would like to change my vote to “Andrew” because it seems more important that your son be named after you than that his middle name be pleasantly rhythmic with his first name or that his initials spell the word GUN!! :)
I’ve been glad to see all your posts lately; I’ve learned much about Google that I had no clue was even there to be known.
(I wasn’t able to get the url on Blogger, by the way, so sorry to have put you to the trouble about it…except that it did lead to finding your good writing!)
What a blessing to you and your wife to be expecting your first, and a son! Very happy for you.
@Jeri: I did some fenagling and changed your vote. Also, check your email since I think I might have figured out a way to transfer that blog to you.
Andrew… This has been highly amusing, but you might want to give a little consideration to what Grayson could think when he is old enough to care and realizes that you left his naming up to other people to decide as a matter of humor, instead of choosing a name which has true meaning to his mom and dad. Just a thought.
i agree with penny here. remember in the old testament when naming children was kind of a big deal and was all the about the meaning…not that their initials spelled a funny word??
on that note do you know that Ulysses was originally derived from Odysseus which is derived from the Greek word that means “to hate”?? My vote is for Grayson Andrew.
LOL! How about Xavier…
